Social media influencers have been, and continue to dominate the marketing space — from famous YouTube beauty gurus with millions of subscribers to your friend on Instagram with 10k followers — influencers are everywhere. Brands and marketers love them as they provide access to target audiences that they might usually struggle to reach. By my definition, influencers are people with large audiences of followers on social media, who leverage their popularity by getting paid by brands to persuade their followers to buy certain products or services.

Influencers are dominating the marketing field, and the advantages of influencer marketing have no end in sight, but what most people aren’t aware of is the prevalence of fraud within the industry. Those smart enough to take advantage of this successful marketing channel also need to be conscious of the risks that accompany it.
